How often were the issues of DC comics released?

My friend thinks DC/American comics are superior to manga. And while I KNOW they are equal forms of art, I was wondering how often the issues of those old comics were released since a single chapter (roughly fifty pages) of manga is released weekly. By how often are they "released" I mean monthly, weekly, yearly, etc.
